Growing a successful business is difficult. How do you feel about the word ‘growth’?
It’s used a lot in the entrepreneurial world these days, particularly on social media.
Every day you see people on the internet, and on podcasts, etc. talking about how fast they are able to grow their business and how much money they are making.
And they are doing it all working only 4 hours a week.
Makes you start to wonder why you can’t achieve the same thing.
The truth of the matter is that there is NO Truth to most of that bragging.
So don’t get caught up in measuring yourself against others.
I promise you – I spent years working with multi-millionaire and billionaire business owners, and not one of them worked 4 hours a week. Or even 4 hours a day.
They put in lots and lots of hours. Growing a successful business takes grit.
But their hours were not spent working IN the business. They spent that time working ON the business.
Strategic planning and goal setting with their teams, building relationships and closing deals.
The fruits of that labor meant they could also take nice chunks of time off and play hard as well.
Growing a successful business is hard work.
It’s not that easy to scale your business or grow your teams or expand your customer base.
Business owners come to me every day telling me how overwhelmed they are with trying to grow their business. And that they just don’t know how to handle it or where to start.
If you’re feeling that way, then understand that you are not alone.
It’s normal to feel like this when you are trying to grow a business.
The good news is that there are things you can do to ease the overwhelm and get back on track.
It all begins with goal setting.
The most important factor is to set strong business goals that are clearly defined.
Some of your goals should be short-term goals that will be used as building blocks to move you towards your larger goals, and some should be bigger vision long term goals – like a 5 year goal.
“Set Measurable Goals. Include precise amounts, dates, and so on in your goals so you can measure your degree of success.” – Unknown
Be as specific as you can when setting your goals.
Think of your goals as a road map to where you want to go.
The long-term goals point you in the right direction and the short-term goals provide step by step directions on how to get there
Regardless of where you’re at in your business growth journey, it’s vital to start by recognizing your objectives and setting goals.
Without goals, it will certainly be very challenging to achieve growth or even understand if or when you’ve succeeded.
So, if you’re committed to achieving profitable growth and long-term success – here are a few tips that can help you get started thinking about what goals you need to achieve to help spur growth and start controlling the chaos in your business.
1. Streamlining and automation will save you time make you more efficient and ultimately more profitable. Find ways to automatically track and leverage your customer data and sales campaigns.
2. Analytics are a must for EVERY Business. It’s the only way for you to understand what is working and what is not. Do not rely on what you “believe” is happening. Numbers never lie. Measure what’s going on and you’ll know what steps you need to take.
3. Hire the best employees you can. In a small business employees have a huge impact on your growth and can really help you fuel innovation.
4. Create recurring income streams. This is what will help bring your business the cash flow necessary for it to grow. There are a wide variety of recurring business models that can provide value to your customers.
5. Focus on customer satisfaction and delight. If you take care of your customers they will take care of you by being lifelong customers, referring others, and creating positive online reviews.
6. Last but not least, have a clear vision for where you want your business to go. Where do you see it in 5 years? What about 10 years? This will help guide your decision-making and ensure you are always moving in the right direction.
Keep in mind that goal setting is an ongoing process and as your business grows and changes so too should your goals.
So, let me ask you…do you have specific goals set for your growth?
If so, fantastic! You’re headed in the right direction.
If not, don’t stress. Make a plan. Set small achievable milestones and goals.
And have some patience.
Please don’t think that you have to go out there and try everything at once.
This is a mistake many business owners make in the rush to try to make results happen.
I call it the spaghetti method!
They just throw everything they can think of at the wall and wait to see what sticks.
Take the time to sit down and have a good think about your business.
What would you currently like to achieve?
In three months, or 6 months’ time, where would you like to see your business and how would you like to spend your working days?
I know you can do this! Setting business goals is the first step to growing a successful business.
Here’s to growing yours!
